The best time to apply on Upwork, from 1.5 million jobs
The days and hours Upwork clients post the most jobs, in your time zone (US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, India), and why the first minutes matter more than the hour.
Short answer: Upwork clients post the most jobs Monday to Wednesday, 4–7pm UTC. That is 11am–2pm in New York, 8–11am in Los Angeles, 4–7pm in London and 5–8pm in Berlin (an hour later in summer), and 2–5am in Sydney. In India it's 9:30pm–12:30am. But the hour matters less than the minutes: apply within the first 30–60 minutes of a job going live, whatever the time.
We looked at the posting time of 1,004,454 Upwork jobs from the last 12 months to work this out. Here is what they show.
The busiest days to apply on Upwork
| Day | Share of the week's jobs |
|---|---|
| Mon | 16.8% |
| Tue | 17.3% |
| Wed | 15.8% |
| Thu | 14.6% |
| Fri | 14% |
| Sat | 10.4% |
| Sun | 11.2% |
Days in UTC. Weekends together get about a fifth of the week's jobs.
Monday and Tuesday are the busiest days and Saturday is the quietest. Fewer jobs also means fewer freelancers looking, so a weekend job can be easier to win, but there are simply fewer of them.
The best hours, in your time zone
The busiest 3 hours of the day are 4–7pm UTC, with 16.3% of all jobs. The single busiest hour of the week is Monday 6–7pm UTC. The quietest stretch is 10pm–4am UTC (18.5% of jobs in 6 hours), when the US is asleep.
| Where you are | Busiest (most new jobs) | Quietest |

| Australia East (AEST) | 2am–5am | 8am–2pm |

| Pakistan (PKT) | 9pm–12am | 3am–9am |
Standard time. During daylight saving, US, Canada, UK and Europe times are one hour later, and so is Sydney from October to April.
In North America the peak falls in your working day, mostly late morning and lunchtime, which is the easiest place to be: block that time for proposals. In the UK and Europe it's late afternoon. In Australia and India it lands at night. You don't have to stay up: the point of knowing the peak is to be ready for it, with a proposal template, portfolio links and Connects in place, and to let job alerts ping you for the few jobs that fit.
Why the first minutes beat the best hour
20% of Upwork jobs already had invites out when we saw them, minutes after posting. The client picked people before most freelancers saw the post. 6% were already interviewing. A client who already has a few good proposals has less reason to keep reading. Applying at the “best time” to a job that posted three hours ago still puts you behind everyone who applied in the first half hour.
- Turn on alerts for your keywords so you see jobs as they post, not when you next refresh.
- Prepare openers per job type so a good proposal takes 5 minutes, not 30.
- Skip the dead ends: 38% of jobs come from clients with no verified payment, and 62% of those never hired anyone. Fast is only good on jobs that will hire.

Each skill's own page shows the full heatmap in your time zone, with filters.
UGC jobs peak earlier (late morning UTC) and voice over jobs late in the week, early in the UTC morning. Check your own skill before you plan your day around the overall numbers.
Does the time of day change the pay?
Barely. The median hourly offer is about the same whatever hour a job posts. The time decides how many jobs you see and how many people you compete with, not what the jobs pay.
