How many jobs are posted on Upwork per day? What we count, and what we can't
Upwork doesn't publish a daily job count. Here is what we record from public job posts, per day, per weekday, per hour and per skill, and why it isn't Upwork's total.
Short answer: Upwork doesn't publish a daily count of new jobs, and we haven't found a trustworthy one anywhere. What we can give you is our own. Over the last 30 days Upwork X-Ray recorded 54,745 public jobs, about 1,825 a day, and over the last 7 days 18,081, about 2,583 a day. That is what our reader catches, not Upwork's total. Read it as a floor and a pattern. It is not the size of the market. Both numbers are real counts. Neither is Upwork's.
We read public job posts as they appear and have kept 1,604,138 of them since Jul 2025. Below: the count over different windows, the days and hours that carry the most jobs, and how many jobs a day some skills get.

The windows don't agree. We'd rather say so than pick the flattering one. The daily average runs from about 1,191 over three months to about 2,709 over twelve, and our data can't tell whether that is Upwork's real volume moving or jobs our reader missed. It is the main reason we don't call any of this Upwork's total, and the reason you should be wary of any site that gives you one exact number without saying how it counted.
Comparing days and hours inside the same data is different. Every cell is counted the same way, so the gap doesn't matter. That is why the next sections give shares and rankings, not market size.
Which days carry the most jobs

Tuesday and Monday are the busiest days. Wednesday is close behind. Saturday and Sunday together hold about 22% of the week's jobs. A quiet weekend means fewer freelancers reading the same post, but also fewer posts to win.
The busiest and the quietest hour of the week
The busiest single hour is Monday 6pm–7pm UTC. In an average week we record about 209 new jobs in that one hour. The quietest is Friday 11pm–12am UTC, with about 49. For these hours in New York, London, Sydney or Mumbai, see the best time to apply on Upwork.
Jobs per day, by skill
A skill's own daily count tells you more than the overall one. It is the number of new jobs you actually compete for. These are AI and automation skills, with Python for scale, as an average over the last 12 months:

In the last 30 days, 41% of the jobs we recorded came from clients in the United States: 22,622 of 54,745. How likely those clients are to hire depends a lot on their country, which we break down in do Upwork clients actually hire.

- Be early. About 21% of the jobs we saw already had invites out minutes after they posted. Seeing the good ones first matters more than how many there are.
